A day in the life

Before you get into the office our monitoring systems will already have notified you of any issues that might need tending to, urgent issues will be addressed remotely before you leave home for the office. When you get in you will have a closer look at the operations by gathering information from several monitoring and informational sources. Once you are confident that everything is under control you grab a coffee or two and tend to your emails, adding anything necessary to your daily planning. During all of this, on some days, you should expect to be interrupted by phones calls, incoming chats, more emails and people at your desk. Being able to prioritize and delegate is necessary in this role. Once you have your base plan for the day organized and prioritized, you set out to work through it.

Typical items in your planning will range from lesser complicated requests, such as: setting up databases and security accounts, implementing database alterations, upgrades and migrations to more complex matters such as: assisting in designing, developing and rolling out entire new projects, designing, maintaining and troubleshooting complex (global) replication topologies and high pressure recovery situations, among many many more interesting and challenging stuff. Any of these situations can and will sometimes be paired with a time pressure factor.

To assist you in maintaining the required level of knowledge and experience and to enable your individual growth, we stimulate and provide budget for educational purposes as well as conference and event attendance.

You will be part of a skilled, diverse and enthusiastic team, who work in a highly cooperative, transparent and structured manner, communicating frequently with each other. You can expect your team members to help you grow and perform to your potential by providing an environment in which we discuss where we can improve as well as reflect on our accomplishments.

You will enjoy a mix of both time to fill in your own day as you see fit, as well as individual and group targets and projects that we define as a team.

As we expect your hard work ethics, at Flow Traders we also provide more than average possibilities to relax and regenerate after a hard day’s work. These options range from top-notch gym facilities, healthy food and beverages to a games room and cold beers at our own bar and lounge. Working for Flow is nothing short of an excellent experience where all of your needs are met, both on the clock and after hours.

What you need to succeed

  • In-depth experience with MySQL and MariaDB
  • Solid understanding of InnoDB
  • Experience with non-structured data stores
  • Experience managing a global database landscape
  • Proficient with Linux command line, experience with Linux based systems administration and shell scripting
